FAQs
Here are answers to some of the questions we receive most often.
If you need any additional information, please feel free to contact Hachi.
- Q. How many days should I spend in Japan?
-
A. Most journeys last between one and two weeks. Seven to ten days can work well for a focused itinerary, while ten to fourteen days allows for a more relaxed pace and time to explore several regions. The ideal length depends on your interests, available vacation time, travel pace, and budget.
- Q. I don’t speak Japanese. Do I need a guide?
-
A. Not necessarily. Whether you need a guide depends on your itinerary, the level of support you would like, and how deeply you want to understand Japan.
If your itinerary is relatively straightforward and you mainly need private transportation, brief introductions to the destinations, route suggestions, and practical assistance during the day, a driver-guide may be sufficient. In addition to driving and coordinating the journey, a driver-guide can explain how to visit each site, where to enter, and what you should know before exploring.
However, because the driver remains responsible for the vehicle and may be restricted by parking locations, parking regulations, or vehicle-access rules, they may not always be able to accompany you throughout an attraction.
If you would like a deeper understanding of Japan’s culture, history, and everyday life, we recommend choosing a professional private guide. A professional guide can accompany you inside attractions and provide more detailed cultural and historical interpretation. They can also join you at restaurants to assist with ordering and communication, and accompany you during cultural activities to provide detailed explanations, interpretation, and on-site support.
You do not necessarily need a professional guide every day. Hachi can review your itinerary and recommend a driver-guide, a professional private guide, or a combination of both for different parts of your journey. - Q. How will I know what to pack for my trip?
-
A. Hachi will send you a pre-departure packing checklist approximately one week before your trip. The recommendations will reflect your destinations, travel dates, expected weather, planned activities, and accommodation style.
- Q. Japan’s transportation system seems complicated. What travel options are available?
-
A. Japan has an excellent public transportation system, but navigating multiple rail companies, stations, and transfers can feel overwhelming at first. IC cards and carefully selected regional rail passes can make public transportation more convenient.
For multi-city journeys, rural destinations, travelers carrying substantial luggage, or guests who prefer a more comfortable pace, a private vehicle can save time and simplify the experience.
If you are spending several days exploring a major city such as Tokyo, trains and subways are often the most practical choice. Hachi will recommend the most suitable combination of trains, private vehicles, and transfers for your itinerary. - Q. . Do I need a visa to travel to Japan, and how should I apply?
-
A. A. Visa and entry requirements vary according to your nationality, passport, country of residence, and intended length of stay. Please check the latest requirements with the Japanese embassy or consulate responsible for your place of residence before traveling.
Hachi can provide general guidance and help you identify the official requirements that may apply to your journey. Additional assistance may be available where our authorized services apply, but final visa decisions are made by the relevant Japanese authorities.
