Hachi, better known as Hachikō, was an Akita dog whose loyalty became legendary throughout Japan. Every day, he would meet his owner, Professor Hidesaburō Ueno, at Shibuya Station and accompany him home.
When Professor Ueno died unexpectedly at work, Hachi continued returning to the station to wait for him. He kept this faithful vigil for nearly ten years, until his own death.
Hachi’s devotion touched people across Japan, and a bronze statue was erected outside Shibuya Station in his honor. The Japanese film Hachikō Monogatari and its later Hollywood adaptation introduced his story to audiences around the world.
Today, Hachi remains an enduring symbol of warmth, courage, and loyalty—the same qualities that inspire the spirit of Hachi.
